Abruzzo post earthquake reconstruction

ABSTRACT . After the Abruzzo earthquake the housing emergency was addressed by adopting a new rebuilding model. The Italian experience of the last fifty years had determined otherwise, the refugees living in precarious housing arrangements for many years (containers). The first phase of assistance to the population, lasting 5-6 months, was characterized by fast construction of temporary solutions, certainly uncomfortable (tent camps, hotels). Afterwards the construction of two buildings residential programs to accommodate the displaced population has started: C.A.S.E. Project (Anti Seismic, Sustainable and Environment-Friendly Buildings) and the M.A.P. Plan (Temporary Accommodation in Modular Housing Unit).  Both projects (particularly in C.A.S.E. Project) have design features that ensure a long life well beyond the housing emergency phase, which hopefully can be contained in 10-15 years.  Therefore some issues require a response: the reuse of settlements after the emergency fase; the local contexts inclusion; the strategy for revitalizing the local economies implementation.  (continua)
